Disclosure & privacy

Cold Hard Sats has no affiliate links, no sponsors and no ads today. No exchange, wallet maker or other provider pays us to be listed or ranked, and we earn nothing when you buy through a link on this site.

Amazon book links

Our book list links to Amazon. These links do not carry an affiliate tag today. If we ever add affiliate links, we will update this notice first and label each one where it appears.

Newsletter email tracking

The weekly brief is sent through Ghost with open and click tracking turned on: Ghost records whether an email was opened and which links were clicked, and links in the email carry a reference tag naming Cold Hard Sats. We use these counts only to see which topics are useful. You can unsubscribe from any email.

Privacy promise

We use Vercel Web Analytics to count page views in aggregate. Per Vercel's Web Analytics privacy documentation (checked Oct 15, 2026), it uses no third-party cookies, identifies visits with a hash of the request that is discarded after 24 hours, and records only page URL, referrer, coarse location (country/region/city), browser, OS and device type, used for aggregate statistics.

  • No cookies set by our own code, no ad pixels, no cross-site tracking, no fingerprinting for advertising, no personal profiles.
  • No accounts. Calculators run entirely in your browser; numbers you type are never sent anywhere.
  • The converter fetches a public price feed directly from your browser; we never see it.
  • Videos: on our video pages, thumbnails load from YouTube's image server (i.ytimg.com), and clicking play loads the video from youtube-nocookie.com, operated by YouTube/Google under Google's privacy policy. Nothing loads from YouTube's player until you click play.
  • Site search runs entirely in your browser using a static index served from this site (Pagefind). What you type is never sent anywhere.
  • The custody checklist on the checklists page saves your ticks only in your own browser (localStorage). It is never sent to us or anyone else; clearing site data or pressing Reset removes it.
  • Live numbers: the home page strip makes your browser contact mempool.space for the block height and BTC price (falling back to CoinGecko for price) every 60 seconds. Those services see your IP address and browser, like any website you visit; we receive nothing.
  • News headlines are fetched by our server from publishers' public RSS feeds; your browser contacts a publisher only if you click a headline.
  • Email signups are handled by Ghost (Ghost Foundation), our newsletter email provider and the processor of subscriber email addresses. Our own signup form sends your email address from our server to Ghost; no Ghost script loads on this site. Ghost processes your email under its privacy policy.
  • Reader questions (the Ask us form on Reader questions and This week): we store your question, the time you sent it, whether you said it's OK to publish it anonymously and, only if you choose to give them, your first name or handle and your email address. They are kept as a private, unpublished draft in our Ghost account (Ghost Foundation, under its privacy policy). We use your email only to reply to that question. No IP address, cookies or device details are stored; your IP address is held briefly in server memory only to limit repeat submissions. We publish a question only if you ticked the box, and never with a name or email. To have a question deleted, reply to our answer email and ask.
  • This week page: block height, halving, Lightning and Fear & Greed numbers are fetched by our server from mempool.space and Alternative.me, so your browser does not contact them.

Not financial advice

All content is educational. Bitcoin is volatile and self-custody carries risk. Do your own research.
